001. okay so! i have yet to finish a bg3 playthrough and know i've had the game since release but i've only recently gotten back into it so here i am. the moment i read up on the dark urge lore i knew what i had to do so here i am (currently act 1 in sylas's durge run, act 3 in my og save) 002. as a follow up to the previous note...i am not entirely familiar with dnd/bg3 lore. i get the basics of whats going on but it can get confusing to me lol. sylas is a mix of bg3 and just fantasy in general. he's wherever i want him to be so...keep that in mind i suppose. while he is based on bg3 he does not entirely belond to it as i have done my own thing with his character and also tossed him into various au's and verses. 003. i. love. plotting! i could seriously plot all day every day. i prefer working on dynamics and tossing ideas around as it makes it easier for me to write up replies / starters! if we're mutuals then my ims are always open and disco is available per request!

004. it should go without saying but! there will be extremely dark and potentially triggering content on this blog! the dark urge is a very rough character...sylas canonically thinks about murdering folks and other things which will be mentioned here and there. he's simply a dark character even with his resistance towards the urge. 005. Now when it comes to following back I tend to be rather selective and it’s nothing personal. I like to keep a clean dash for MY OWN mental health and well being. If I do follow you then that means I want to write with you! And again , if there are no interactions by any means on your part I will most likely soft block. I like to be able to have plots/threads with my mutuals even though I’m a bit shy myself. 006. I absolutely adore shipping. It will be based on chemistry though so please keep that in mind. sylas isn't someone who easily opens up . . . in fact its very rare for him to so easily open up his heart. he tends to isolate because of the darkness within himself so this would take a lot of plotting to work out!

( these entities are fiercely loyal and will obey his every command ), envelop a wide area in complete darkness, creating a localized eclipse, summon shadowy tendrils from the ground or walls, which can ensnare, strangle, or pull enemies into the darkness. tapping into the darker aspects of his power, sylas can plunge his enemies into an illusory realm of shadow, overwhelming their minds with fear and disorientation. he can call upon the shadows to fully envelop him and anyone he chooses, creating a protective dome of pure darkness

CREATED FROM THE VERY FLESH OF LORD BHAAL sylas was not meant to live an ordinary life. As an infant, he was placed with a loving family, who raised him as their own, unaware of the darkness coursing through his veins. For years, Sylas lived in peace, shielded from his true nature. But as he neared his twelfth year, Bhaal called him home. The Dark Urge awakened, and with it, a horrifying bloodlust. One fateful night, Sylas’s innocent village was reduced to carnage—his own family, friends, and neighbors among the first victims. That massacre marked the beginning of a long and brutal path.Bhaal, sensing the purest form of his essence in Sylas, brought him to his temple. There, the boy honed his deadly skills, growing into a terrifying figure, mastering his innate powers of shadow manipulation. The years turned Sylas into something unstoppable—a living weapon of darkness. His loyalty to Bhaal was unwavering, and upon reaching maturity, he accepted his destiny as an assassin for his dark god, slaughtering in Bhaal's name. His kills were senseless, driven by the joy of bloodshed alone, leaving devastation wherever he traveled..

As Sylas rose in power, he became Bhaal's favored child, leading the Cult of Bhaal with ruthless efficiency. His ultimate goal: to cleanse the world of life, leaving only death, and in the end, even erasing himself. The plan was simple—use the crown on the Elder Brain beneath Moonrise Towers to bring this apocalyptic vision to life. In this place, the Dark Urge was revered, even the Elder Brain feared and respected Sylas for his cruelty and grand ambitions.But his ascension was not without enemies. Orin the Red, jealous of Sylas's favor with Bhaal, betrayed him. She implanted a tadpole in his head, erasing his memories and reducing him to a mere tool, the first True Soul. Captured and studied by Kressa Bonedaughter and her husband, Sylas’s once-mighty form was reduced to a lifeless shell, unable to speak or fight back. It was Kressa's husband who eventually arranged for Sylas to be placed on the nautiloid ship, where he awoke with no memory of who he once was.

Now, traveling with companions who share his curse, Sylas seeks to rid himself of the tadpole. But the Dark Urge still resides within him, whispering temptations and pushing him towards violence. Despite his attempts to resist, the nightmares of his past—of the bloodshed and terror he once caused—continue to haunt him.

Even with the amnesia, Sylas sometimes experiences sudden flashes of memory—disjointed and fragmented, often triggered by certain sights, sounds, or smells. These fragments can be something as simple as the sound of a blade being drawn, the scent of freshly cut grass, or the sight of blood. When they come, they hit him hard, sometimes causing him to freeze in place or lose focus for a moment. His companions might notice these moments of dissociation, though Sylas rarely explains them.
Though Sylas rarely speaks of his emotions, his eyes betray him. There’s a constant weariness behind them, a tiredness from years of violence and a lifetime of loss. Companions who are particularly perceptive may notice this, recognizing the battle within him even when his expression is neutral. In moments of silence or stillness, his eyes often drift, as if haunted by ghosts no one else can see.
Though Sylas once led the Cult of Bhaal, the idea of leadership no longer appeals to him. His time as a ruthless leader, with the power to command and destroy at will, left him with a deep sense of regret and guilt. Now, he prefers to follow, allowing others to make decisions. He avoids taking on leadership roles, fearing that the influence of power might once again corrupt him, bringing out the worst of the Dark Urge. Despite this, others in his group sometimes look to him for guidance, sensing the latent authority he carries.

Whenever the Dark Urge begins to grow stronger within him, Sylas’s body reflects the inner battle. His fingers twitch, as though aching to grip a weapon; his jaw clenches, and his eyes darken as if the shadows themselves are starting to take hold. These physical signs are subtle but intensify the longer he resists the urge. If anyone notices, he often brushes it off, claiming it’s just fatigue or pain from past injuries.
Despite his lethal nature and violent past, Sylas has a surprising soft spot for animals, particularly those that are small or defenseless. Perhaps it’s because they remind him of innocence—something he feels he can never regain. He’ll often go out of his way to help a wounded or lost animal, even though he rarely shows similar compassion for people. Sylas is drawn to the simplicity of animals; they don’t judge him or fear him, and they offer a form of quiet companionship that soothes him, even if only briefly.
Sylas’s dreams are a constant battleground. Night after night, he relives the slaughter of his village, the faces of those he loved twisting in terror as he brought death upon them. In his nightmares, he also sees visions of those he’s killed over the years, their bloodstained faces haunting him. He often wakes in a cold sweat, his heart racing, and sometimes finds himself clutching his weapon instinctively, as if preparing to defend himself from these phantoms of his past.
Despite his efforts to resist, there’s still a part of Sylas that revels in the act of killing. It scares him how much he enjoys it—the surge of adrenaline, the power that courses through him when he takes a life. Even when he kills for survival or defense, the satisfaction that comes afterward makes him question his ability to ever be truly free of Bhaal’s influence. This feeling of euphoria is fleeting, always followed by guilt and disgust, but it lingers just long enough to remind him of who he used to be.

THE DARK URGE

During his time as the Dark Urge, Sylas was the embodiment of chaos and destruction. Created from the flesh of Bhaal, he was a relentless assassin, reveling in death without reason or remorse. His every action was driven by a primal bloodlust, killing anyone in his path simply to satisfy the violent compulsion that defined him. As he rose through the ranks of the Cult of Bhaal, Sylas became its brutal leader, orchestrating murder on a massive scale, with no loyalty beyond his devotion to his Father, Bhaal.His goal was clear: to erase all life, including his own, in a final offering to the God of Murder. His cruel methods and merciless nature made him feared across Faerûn, a being of pure malice. This chaotic existence was cut short when Orin the Red betrayed him, implanting a tadpole in his mind, stripping him of his memories and breaking his connection to the dark legacy that had consumed him.

DEFAULT

Sylas wakes on a nautiloid ship, with no recollection of his brutal past as the Dark Urge. Confused and unaware of his true nature, he joins a group of companions, all seeking to remove the tadpole implanted in their heads, which threatens to take control of them. While the others are driven by the need to survive, Sylas is plagued by something deeper—a constant, nagging darkness within him, manifesting in violent impulses and intrusive thoughts.
Though he no longer remembers the countless murders he committed in Bhaal’s name, Sylas senses the evil lurking in the recesses of his mind. Night after night, his dreams are filled with blood, death, and echoes of the carnage he once reveled in. As the group travels through Faerûn, he fights to suppress the Dark Urge, which whispers at the edge of his consciousness, pushing him toward senseless violence. At times, he’s overwhelmed by the temptation to kill, the primal desire to see blood on his hands, but each time, he claws his way back to sanity, determined not to become the monster he once was.Despite the growing bond with his companions, Sylas isolates himself emotionally, fearing he might harm them if the Urge ever takes full control. The weight of his forgotten past haunts him, and though he fights for redemption, the path ahead is riddled with constant internal struggle. The battle is not just to remove the tadpole, but to resist the part of him that longs to return to his former life of chaos and slaughter. Every step forward feels like a war against his own soul, as he tries to forge a new identity and fight for a future free of the Dark Urge that still lingers within.

LORD OF THE RINGS

Sylas was created by dark sorcery in the lingering shadows of Mordor crafted from the malevolent magic left behind by Sauron’s fall. Intended to be a weapon forged from shadow and malice, he was sent far from Mordor as a child and raised by a kind family in Gondor, unaware of his true origins. Growing up, Sylas appeared ordinary, but as he matured, strange abilities and dark visions began to haunt him. He could control shadows, and his dreams were filled with death and fire, whispers of Sauron’s return.When the Urge finally took hold, Sylas slaughtered his adoptive family in a violent outburst, driven by a compulsion he couldn’t understand. Filled with horror and guilt, he fled east, drawn toward Mordor and the remnants of Sauron’s power. There, in the ruins of Barad-dûr, he uncovered the truth: he was created to be a vessel of the Dark Lord’s will, a weapon meant to carry out Sauron’s dark designs long after his fall. Wielding powerful shadow magic, Sylas became a feared assassin, carrying out murders without hesitation, driven by a bloodlust that seemed to have no end.However, as he wandered Middle-earth, Sylas began to struggle against his dark nature. Though he was a creature of shadow, he retained a glimmer of humanity and sought redemption for the lives he had taken. Despite his terrifying reputation, he reluctantly allied with the Free Peoples of Middle-earth, helping them fight against the remnants of evil while constantly battling the Urge to return to chaos and slaughter.
